  1. Breakdown or breakthrough? I think I watched and listened and read this one to the end. The writing was interesting, the media were intererstingly fractured but rich, and the audio was well-suited to the text and fractured video. Yes, this seems like a breakthrough for you in your work, Alan. Always a price, though, eh?

  2. Thanks for the comments, Jim. Much appreciated!

  3. This is a nice piece of work. I like “The Metaphor Room” best of the different sections, because it’s got the most poetic feel to it – the visuals, the audio track and especially the writing all seem a little bit more intuitive and suggestive than elsewhere. I like that image of somebody floating in an upside-down umbrella: there’s something dreamlike and fairy-storyish about that.

  4. Thanks for the comments, Edward.

Believe it or not, that video was taken on a cruise ship. My wife was given a free cruise by her boss, so we went (to Haiti, just before the earthquake).

Among the many other surreal offerings on the ship (a skating rink, a casino, a surfing pool, an indoor mall), there was also a water ballet. This clip came from that. I don’t think there is any other place in the world where I could have gotten it.

  5. I’m knocked out by this! Mesmerising! Especially ‘The Metaphor Room’ – dangerously alluring. The first time I read it, I ended on ‘Suicide’. This time, I ended with the ‘Analyst’, which I found far more disturbing – round and round and round we go… I got quite caught up in that one. Nevertheless, the effect of the whole piece is strangely… uplifting.

  6. Thanks for taking a look, Christine. As long as someone is uplifted, all is well…

    See you at ELO!
