New Work
Hi folks, I have two new works up. The first, Speaking Straight, is a collaboration with Roger Dean. A piece of computer interactive sound poetry, it was made as part of our Virtual Interactivity Project in which text is processed in Python. It is up in the journal aslongasittakes at http://www.aslongasittakes.org/issue5.html
.
The second piece, Clay Conversations is a video I made as part of a collaboration with ceramicist Joanna Still. It has text by me, ceramics and photographs by Joanna, and a soundtrack by Roger Dean made almost entirely of clay sounds. It is up at Scan Gallery http://scan.net.au/scan/gallery/works/smith_april10/smith.php

Interesting stuff. What kind of text processing are you doing there?
Thanks very much for this Edde. There are quite a lot of details about the project from which this piece is drawn and the processing in my paper for the ELO conference at http://www.brown.edu/Conference/Electronic_Literature_Organization/papers/. “Speaking Straight” is an offshoot of the piece Instabilities referred to in that paper, and uses the same text as its base. I note your own work in computer generated text with considerable interest and want to look at it in more detail. I’ve also posted the URL about your work on netpoetic to my collaborator Roger Dean with did the processing for Speaking Straight.
I enjoyed your sound poetry, Speaking Straight, Hazel. It’s remarkable how computer generated voices can become quite musical.
The video piece sounds fascinating too but unfortunately my browser keeps throwing up “can’t find the server at scan.net.au” ?
Hi Christine , many thanks for your comments. Did you put in the whole URL in for Clay Conversations? It’s http://scan.net.au/scan/gallery/works/smith_april10/smith.php
It worked for me when I tried it just now, so I don’t think there is a fundamental problem —
Thanks again for the feedback
Best
Hazel
