my typewriter
a couple of days ago there was the news that the last factory that produced typewriters closed (which is not true at all in fact). there are still hundreds of thousands used ones around. you can get them at flea markets for 1-5 euros. i’d really recommend buying one or a couple (in case one breaks). it’s a perfect tool for writing down random thoughts or to create experimental writing.
it’s always on. no need to switch it on and wait for the computer to start.
it needs no power. you can go hiking with it for weeks.
it’s a musical instrument.
it’s exercise for your fingers.
you cannot delete anything. that helps from time to time.
it looks nice.
you can get multicolored ink-ribbons.
you can sell the sheets of paper as unique artworks.
it’s good for showing in a museum when you are famous.

mine is the olivetti lettera 32.. but.. some of the letters get jammed… and I think they also require a bit of cleaning…
I bought a new Olivetti few years ago, the only model they make now, and the craftsmanship was so poor, it’s really not good for much more than kooky collaborative poems at parties. It’s pretty though. I’ll have to invest in a higher end manual model.
